Ancient village dating back to 1200, Valsolda takes its name from the valley and the stream running through it that flows into Lake Lugano.
Closed between the lake and the craggy mountains of dolomite nature, the village offers a highly diverse landscape, being divided into many hamlets: from the olives trees of lakefront in the hamlets of Albogasio, Cressogno, Oria and San Mamete, to the forests and meadows of Drano, Puria, Dasio, Muzzaglio and Camporna until the other side of Lake Lugano, in the village of Santa Margherita, once connected by cable car with Lanzo d'Intelvi.
Valsolda, seen from the lake, is really pleasant and picturesque: rugged mountains and small villages, creating a timeless atmosphere. The town can be a starting point for beautiful hikes in the mountains.
